Kick in the R.I.R. Award Winner: Rob Giglio
by B. Onders (Apr. 2006)

Although females took the first two presentations of the Kick In the R.I.R. Award, a young man stepped forward this time and proved he has what it takes.  This young man was Robert Giglio and at the Blue Academy's Award Ceremony, he became the first male to be recognized with the Kick In the R.I.R. Award this school year. This award is given to one student from the Blue Academy every nine weeks. It is given as a recognition of Responsibility, Integrity, and Respect.  Some may

say that these qualities seem lost in the high school lifestyle when it seems as if everyone is only looking out for themselves, but Robert lives with these qualities  on a daily basis. What makes this award even more of an honor is that in order to receive it, the recipient must be nominated by his or her peers. Robert may possess qualities regularly that others his age posses much less frequently, yet he is just a regular freshman.
     When asked about the
future, Robert responded,

"I want to go to college and get a job in computer programming."  In his spare time, he enjoys playing the trumpet as well as spending time with friends.  Finally, when asked about which cartoon character best describes him, he answered, "Marvin the Martian because he is funny and at the same time he is really smart."  This is a great comparison. Robert is a truly well rounded student, having success inside the classroom and enjoying life by spending time with great friends outside the classroom.     Congratulations Robert!

Third Nine Weeks Celebration a Success by K. Hunter (Apr. 2006)

As the year progresses, our Blue Team teachers have seen improvement in all of our Blue Team members, both academically and as young adults, and on April 10th the teachers honored the students with a celebration.  The Blue Team is full of intelligent, responsible, and respectful students, and in order to honor this successes our teachers have created an end of the quarter celebration.

We began the celebration by attending an awards ceremony in the auditorium.  The Blue team teachers presented a total of thirty six awards for truly deserving students. There was a variety of awards presented, from the highest

average to the original thinker.    Each award was based on the students’ excellence in the class room.  The recipients received a certificate and a candy bar of their choice.  The major award for our team was the Kick in the RIR.  RIR represents responsibility, integrity, and respect, in which our recipient, Rob Giglio demonstrates everyday.  Rob received a T-shirt with the Kick in the RIR motto, and will help the other recipients announce the forth Kick in the RIR winner.  The teachers are proud of everyone’s accomplishments this quarter, and unfortunately could only honor a few of our team members.
Following the awards ceremony we had a pizza

party in the Davidson Commons.  This party gave everyone a chance to relax after a stressful quarter.  For this celebration, Hilliard Davidson's PTO money for pizza and pop, as well as a select few who donated their time to come and help with the party itself.  This was a great way to end the day, giving everyone a chance to have fun and hang out with fellow Blue Team members.  Thanks to the PTO and to those who came to help, everyone appreciated it.  The Celebration was an excellent way to end a fantastic nine weeks, and kick off the fourth and final grading period of this school year.
