1. Journal/Bell-Ringer: Write about your “Dark Side,” the part of you that can be cruel.  What has it made you do?  Why does it sometimes control you?  Where does it come from?

2. Business:
    a. Assign: CN finished by Friday.
    b. Due: Night books in class – have checked ASAP.

    c. Turn in any late work needed: Vocab Worksheet for CN, Scarlet Ibis study guide, CN eCampus posts, arrange to take Vocab quiz for Scarlet Ibis, CN One-Pager…

    d. Reminder: Keep bringing books to class.

3. Reader’s Workshop
    a. Discuss today’s journal: The Dark Side.
    b. Taming "The Scarlet Ibis."
        1) Use Study Guide to guide our discussions.
        2) Thematic Statement for the story itself.
        3) How does the story fit into our courage unit?

    c. SSR: CN as time allows.

4. HW: CN read in entirety by Friday.

Wednesday 2/23
1. Journal/Bell-Ringer: “The Scarlet Ibis” wrap up: Why is this story part of the courage unit?  Jot down as many ways as possible that the story demonstrates various types of courage.  Don’t forget, the Brother could be considered courageous in some ways too.

2. Business:
    a. Reminder: CN finished by Friday.
    b. Due: Night books in class – have checked ASAP.

    c. Turn in any late work needed: Vocab Worksheet for CN, Scarlet Ibis study guide, CN eCampus posts, arrange to take Vocab quiz for Scarlet Ibis, CN One-Pager…

1. Journal/Bell-Ringer: You already "kind of" know about Elie Wiesel - he is a Holocaust survivor who wrote the most well-known of the survivor books and he is a Nobel Peace Prize winner.  Describe the kind of person you think he is; in other words, what would you expect him to be like now?

    b. Due: Night books in class – have checked ASAP.

    c. Turn in any late work.

    d. Reminder: Days off from books today and tomorrow - bring back Monday.
