Monday 9/27

1. Journal/Bell-Ringer: Tell how to do something simple that you do well in first person present tense. Ex. Make a great sandwich; help a friend in need; you get the idea. Then write it again in passive voice; then again in 2nd person active/imperative mood (commands - you can use the "understood you"). 2. Business     a. Announce: Organizational Checks this week: Planners.     b. Turn in Signed Grades Sheet     c. Assign: Finish OMM with Lit Strategy for Thursday. 3. Writer's Workshop: Process Writing     a. Finish writing your instructions.         *Key elements: transitions, vocabulary, paragraphs (A/C)     b. Trade and draw - check results. 5. HW: Finish OMM with Lit Strategy by Thursday.

Tuesday 9/28 - Lit Book

1. Journal/Bell-Ringer: How do the expectations of others both help and hurt your drive to achieve your dreams?  More interestingly, how do your expectations both help and hurt that same drive? 2. Business     a. Reminder: Organizational Checks this week: Planners.     b. Turn in late Signed Grades Sheet     c. Reminder: Finish OMM with Lit Strategy by Thursday. 3. Writer's Workshop: Process Writing     a. Finish Process Writing (trade n draw) - 10 minutes. Turn in all materials.     b. Debrief: What elements were essential to success?         *clarity, vocab, flow, consistent voice - what voice did you use 4. Reader's Workshop: Amy Tan's "Two Kinds"     a. Discuss journal.     b. Using the lit book: Words to Know, footnotes, artwork.     c. Literacy Strategy: telling character details - note and mark.         1) Create your own Graphic Organizer for this now.         2) What categories do you make? Or do you just do it generally?     d. Modeled reading - class reads aloud with pauses to note key details. 5. HW: Finish OMM with Lit Strategy by Thursday.

Reader's Workshop: Amy Tan's "Two Kinds"     a. Finish reading "Two Kinds" noting telling character details.     b. Now, put it together (Pair & Share - take notes with GOs):          **USE TEXTUAL PROOF**         1) Characterize the mother and the daughter - GO 1         2) What does each learn by the end of the story? - GO 2         3) Theme? GO 2         4) Essential Question: How do one's Hopes and Dreams guide relationships? 4. HW: 1) Finish today's class work as needed individually; 2) Finish OMM with Lit Strategy by tomorrow.

1. Journal/Bell-Ringer: You've finished reading OMM.  Respond to it morally - make a judgment!  What do you think Steinbeck was trying to say? 2. Business     a. Reminder: Organizational Checks this week: Planners.     b. Announce: Bring Rooftop Lab RD to class tomorrow! 3. Reader's Workshop: Amy Tan's "Two Kinds"     a. Meet with partner to review responses.     b. Share Themes and Essential Question responses.     c. Add "Two Kinds" to our Theme Wheel.     d. Turn in your "Two Kinds" GOs and writing. 4.
