1. Journal/Bell-Ringer: Think of a time something you really wanted to happen actually happened.  Then, make a metaphor or simile for how you felt.  Next, think of a time you really wanted something to happen and it didn't.  Make a metaphor or simile for that feeling too.
2. Business
    a. Turn in late Perfect Paragraphs &/or  SQ3R from WS book.
    b. Organization Checks - Planners - in Period 1 Friday.
    c. Preview: Tomorrow's Timed Writing
3. Reader's Workshop
    a. Check in Of Mice and Men books. (During Journal?) - Keep in your bookbag!
    b. Literary Techniques: Metaphor/Simile
        1) Share a few metaphors/similes from today's journal.
        2) Nothing is ever quite what it seems - literature as metaphor.
        3) How the metaphor/simile works.
            a) We all have different meanings, perceptions.
            b) Tenor and Vehicle (If absent, be sure to get these notes in class.)
        4) Introduce The Metaphor Game (as time allows).

1. Journal/Bell-Ringer: How do you respond when things don’t go your way?  Tell a little story that illustrates that.

    a. "Mother to Son" - Read together, annotate, & discuss.
