      Everyone is required to turn in a persuasive/opinion essay.  If you write that essay about your debate topic, you can use it to write your speech, cross examination, or rebuttal.  This is recommended.

      Everyone will be required to speak during the debate at some point; this will fulfill your persuasive speaking requirement.

Our plan will solve the problem/harm – you will fix the problem

NEGATIVE SPEAKER CROSS EXAMINES (NCE)

Begin to pick at the affirmative position and set up opponent for later attacks
Ask questions to help you understand their arguments – get information
Ask questions to set up your arguments to come – use the answers against them later
Show the judges what a wonderful person you are – act like a polite, friendly person

THE NEGATIVE CONSTRUCTIVE SPEECH (NC)

3 minutes
Attacks affirmative and begins laying out additional negative issues
Make arguments against the specific cases of the affirmative case – case arguments
Argue that if the affirmative plan is adopted bad things will happen – disadvantages
Argue that the fundamental assumptions of the affirmative are flawed/incorrect – critique of deduction/induction
Argue that the plan does not truly address the topic – topicality
Argue that there would be a better alternative to the plan – counterplan
