Ideas for your research and preparation

1. Use a wide variety of resources – start with the extra materials with the text and pre-made stuff from former students.  Click HERE for that stuff!

2. Be organized in how you approach your preparation.

3. But, be open minded as well, especially as you begin your work.

4. Do not become overly reliant on resources – you will be assessed heavily on your original thinking and ownership of the material.

Ideas for your lessons

1. Journals are a good way to focus your class on your topic or have them consider it when you are done.  Only go five minutes.

2. Avoid lecturing or giving a lot of notes.  10 minutes for any notes should be sufficient.

3. Similarly, avoid full class activities – they are difficult to manage effectively.

4. Do use small group activities.  Your best approach would be to split the class into the same number of small groups as there are members of your group.  Then, you can have each person run each group.  In fact, I really do expect you to do this.

5. Make your lessons active: students are actually doing something whether it’s discussing, making, writing, acting.

6. Engage your class in a variety of ways: use visual aids, music, multimedia.  We learn that way in our culture now, so use it.

7. Find a good balance between high intensity work and more relaxed work.

8. Of course, make your test questions meaningful.
