Expository Writing 1/28 – 2/1

 

Monday

 

1. Journal: Why are you here? (After "class entry" drill.)

2. Make sure everyone has a book.
3. English Odyssey Workshop (with laptop labs)

    a. Go to Maitespace.com and navigate to English Odyssey.

    b. Click through to Expository Writing – fill out student information forms.

    c. Scavenger Hunt – teacher will lead.  Students familiar with site should “guide” others.

    d. Explore site if time allows.

 

Tuesday

 

1. Journal: Go over what a free write is; then, 5 minute free write.
2. Take a moment to look for idiosyncrasies in your journal.

3. New students: books.
4. English Odyssey Workshop (with laptop labs)

    a. Handout: Parent Orientation Letter.  Go to parent page and parent link on EW site so you can show them what to do.  Parent submittal due Monday, February 4 for credit – online gets extra credit.

    b. Go over Class Policies, Standards for Written Work, Journal and Class Participation expectations.

    c. Whatever we don’t get to, you must review on your own.

 

Wednesday

 

1. Journal: 10 minute Open Write.
2. Address new students if needed.
3. Portfolio Instruction
    a. Assign materials: click HERE to review.
    b. Materials are due – folder or website address – Monday, February 4.

4. Go over Writing Process. (overhead)

5. Writer’s Workshop

    a. Choose your First Assigned Composition from the box.

    b. Topic and type are on your sheet.

    c. PW your essay now.
6. Reminders:

    a. Review website info thoroughly

    b. Your info form should be submitted.

    c. Your parents should have theirs done by Monday, 2/4.

 

Thursday

 

1. Journal: What if?

2. Writer’s Workshop Part I: Assign Personal Choice Essay

    a. Write anything you want but poetry.

    b. Shoot for two pages, front only, double spaced.

    c. Be prepared to share and discuss it.

    d. Due Monday, 2/4.

3. Writer’s Workshop Part II: Writing
    Choose to work on either your First Assigned Composition or your Personal Choice Essay.

4. Reminders:

    a. Parent Info Form: Online or on paper due M, 2/4.

    b. Your Info Form should be done.

    c. Your Portfolio Materials – due M, 2/4.

 

Friday

 

1. Journal: Book of Questions #18.

2. Grammar of the Day 1

3. Writer's Workshop
    a. Finish drafting either piece.

    b. Peer read and revise as needed.

    c. SRDs of both your writings due M, 2/4.
