Short Story Rhetorical Analysis Mastery Activity
Group Teaching of Short Story
Your group’s tasks are to
demonstrate your mastery of and enhance your classmates’ understanding of the
rhetorical analysis of a short story. You
will be provided with the story, what must be included in the lesson, two full
days to prepare, and one class period in which to present. Classmates will be required to read your
story the day or night before you teach and may take a quiz at the beginning of
your lesson. In addition, I will be
available to help you with any difficulties you may encounter with the
material. Your groups will be chosen for
you for this activity.
·
have a well-designed lesson plan with Group Theme Wheel
submitted before teaching
·
assign a short
(5 minute) journal for students to complete that “warms them up” for the lesson
·
explain the
story’s theme so that all students understand it and how it was determined
·
explain all the
author’s techniques used in developing the scene
·
use at least two
different learning activities during the course of the lesson
·
use the text
(reading passages in class) to help learn the theme and techniques
·
a written record
of group activities throughout the project (will need a recorder)
·
may give and
grade a basic comprehension quiz to check student reading (teacher option)
·
don’t worry
about verifying the final learning of your classmates – the teacher will do
that for you
