3. Writer's Workshop
    a. Exchange short story so far with partner.
    b. Comment extensively!
    c. Continue work on story.
    d. Goal is to have a full RD by Wednesday.
4. HW: 1) Grade sheet signed; 2) Continue work on short story.
Tuesday 1/11
1. Journal/Bell-Ringer: Describe your bedroom using at least two examples/images/words for each of the five senses.
2. Business: Turn in signed grades sheets.
3. Writer's Workshop
    a. Imagery Mini-Lesson
        1) Share journals.
        2) Handout: Sense Words
        3) Sense Chart - using imagination to sense chart your setting.
        4) Add your details to your story now.
    b. Work on RD - your goal is to have your RD done for tomorrow.
4. HW: Continue work on short story - goal is to have it done tomorrow.
Wednesday 1/12
1. Journal/Bell-Ringer: Revise sentences posted on overhead for better diction.
2. Business: Turn in late signed grade sheets.
3. Writer's Workshop
    a. Diction Mini-Lesson
        1) Review Bell-Ringer
        2) Review: Denotation/Connotation
        3) Verbs in General: Revising ordinary verbs.
            *Verbs in action activity.
        4) Dialogue: Replacing "said"
        5) Try 3-5 verb/said revision now.
    b. Work on RD/RRD (revisions) now.
4. HW: Working on RD as needed - if done, take a break or start typing!
Thursday 1/13
1. Journal/Bell-Ringer: (after today's reading - to turn in)  How did O'Flaherty create suspense?  Mention techniques, great passages, what made it good.  Length: whatever you can muster by the end of the period.

    b. Announce due date for short story final copy: Thursday, January 20.
3. Reader's Workshop: "The Sniper"
    a. Literacy Strategy: Create Graphic Organizer or Annotate
        1) Focus: SUSPENSE!
        2) Hints: Setting, Complications, Tone/Mood.
    b. Pre-Reading: Where we are and what's going on.
    c. SSR - apply literacy strategy.
    d. Complete journal as a graded writing and turn in.

1. Journal/Bell-Ringer: How do modern movies and TV shows develop suspense? How do they differ from each other?
2. Business:

3. Viewer's Workshop
    a. Discuss journals - what we see in our media.
    b. 1932's "The Most Dangerous Game" - first 30 minutes.
    c. Look for and comment on various suspense techniques used in the old, black and white movies,
    d. Debrief - last five minutes of class.
