Monday 11/15

1. Journal/Bell-Ringer: Free write.
2. Business:
    Distribute Interim Grade Sheet - make corrections and return all graded work.
3. Reader's Workshop
    a. Finish, share, and turn in Montresor's Perfect Crime Flow Charts.
        *Label Plot Parts together first.
    b. Create a "Surprise and Suspense" Unit Wheel.
        1) Review the unit's essential questions.
        2) What techniques did Poe use to create suspense?
            *irony, imagery, foreshadowing, mood, narrator/point of view (1st person, 2nd person, 3rd person limited, 3rd person omniscient), setting, sources of literature, suspense, tone, setting
        3) If time, read and answer Q's for "Beware Do Not Read This Poem."
4. HW: Finish "Beware..." Poem Worksheet.

Tuesday 11/16

1. Journal/Bell-Ringer: Complete the back of yesterday's "Surprise and Suspense" Unit Handout. (Last night's questions checked during journal.)
2. Business:
    a. Have SFSB/Novel with you every day now.
    b. Assign EC: Check Vocab Worksheet on eCampus, grade yourself, make corrections, turn in to teacher!
3. Reader's Workshop: Surprise and Suspense
    a. Review "Beware, Do Not Read This Poem"
    b. Answer questions.
    c. Essential Question: What does this poem tell us about how author's develop Surprise and Suspense? Add to Surprise and Suspense Wheel.
4a. Reader's Workshop: Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes
    a. Previewing the text: what to look for...what to expect.
    b. Create obvious lit strategy organizers: Character List to start.
    c. Begin reading together Title Page & Chapter 1.

    a. As a group, you need to pick out which of the alternate novels you wish to read.
    b. We will get the book you choose from the Media Center.
    c. You will read the same amount proportionally with the SFSB readers and will complete parallel assignments.
    d. Assign: Read Chapter 1 of your book tonight.

Thursday 11/18 - Conference Night

1. Journal/Bell-Ringer: What is your response to your book so far? Do you like it? Is it good? What do you expect of the rest of the book?
2. Business:
    a. Have SFSB/Novel with you every day now.
    b. Reminder EC: Check Vocab Worksheet on eCampus, grade yourself, make corrections, turn in to teacher! Turn in now if ready.
    c. Reminder: Notebooks will likely be checked tomorrow.
    d. Discuss reading schedules - typically I like two chapters per day but you tell me.
3a. Reader's Workshop SFSB
    a. Class discussion - what do we think of the book so far?
    b. Examine Chapter 1 together.
        1) Study Guide Q's - keep in notebook.
        2) Finding interesting/telling details together for Ch. 1.
        3) Now, in groups of three, do the same thing for Ch. 2.
            *Take notes!
        4) Be prepared to share what you found with the class.
3b. Reader's Workshop: Alternate Novel
      *TURN IN your one pager from yesterday.
    a. Join our discussion about our books - you can share too!
    b. Listen in on our Ch. 1 details discussion.
    c. Individually or in a group, do the same thing for Chapter 2 in your book.
           *Take notes!
    d. Be prepared to share what you found, either as turned in notes or with the class.
