Creative Writing  6/2 – 6/6

 

Monday 6/2

 

1. Journal: As quickly as you can, write down everything you can remember doing in this class.  Then, pick out one or two things you are really proud of having learned or improved and explain how you learned and improved that (those) skill(s).

2. Final Project Workshop
    a. Begin final Theme/Quotation assignment – handout/overhead

        1) Go over entire assignment, changing according to modified assignment. 

        2) The modifications:

            a) Skip Step I

            b) Instead of three, we are only doing two.

            c) You may choose from the options listed for Quotation 1, Quotation 2, or Quotation 3 only.

    b. Begin brainstorming and identifying two quotes you feel truly reflect your philosophy of life.  If time allows, explore their meanings a bit in writing.

    c. We’ll have laptops the rest of the week, so bring floppies if needed.

 

Tuesday 6/3

 

1. Journal: (10 minutes) Take five minutes each to explore the meaning and importance to you of each quotation you have chosen. (overhead)
2. Final Project Workshop (laptops)
    a. Use your first quote as the theme of your first piece of writing.

        1) Remember, you may choose from the Quotations 1-3 options in the assignment.

        2) Don’t forget all the lessons we covered this year.

    b. Once topic and type are chosen and focused, begin drafting.

 

Wednesday 6/4

 

1. Journal: none
2. Final Project Workshop (laptops)
    a. Drafting Final Project piece.
    b. If done early, elicit peer readers for responses.

    c. Remember, you can also draft your second piece – it does have to be a different type though.

3. Choose the best 2 or 3 pieces you’ve written this semester and submit for permanent portfolio.

 

Thursday 6/5

 

1. Journal: On a separate piece of paper, write down six questions you'd like to have answered about your first piece, being sure to leave four lines in between the questions for your peer reader to answer.  Go back to the top of the paper and, on the top line, write out the quotation which is the theme your writing. (overhead with revisions)

2. Final Project Workshop (laptops)
    a. Exchange writings and the peer reading guide you made for your journal today.  Peer readers read, complete the guide, and return all to the author.
    b. Once you have your work back with comments, revise it.

    c. RRD due today/tomorrow.

    d. If you finish early, you may move on to a second piece of your choice – remember, it must be different from your first piece.

3. Reminder: Multigenre Project due 5/29.

 

Friday 6/6

 

Final Exam: 9:45 – 11:25 (laptops)
1. Finish and have RRDs for both pieces checked.

2. Exam: Make final revisions and proofread the better of your two pieces; hand in FC to be graded.

3. Choose the best 2 or 3 pieces you’ve written this semester and submit for permanent portfolio.

4. Take Portfolio with you and have a great summer!
