Creative Writing  5/5 – 5/9

Monday 5/5

1. Journal: Describe your experiences with research writing.  What did you do?  Notecards?  Outlines?  What did the final paper “sound like”?  Were you happy with it?  Was the experience fun?  Fascinating?  Sum up by saying what research writing means to you – in one word.  Finally, what does research have to do with creative writing – if anything?

2. Begin Multigenre Project

    a. Discuss journal in some depth.

    b. Distribute a sample Multigenre paper.

    c. Examine together.  Discuss what we are looking at.

    d. Read the rest of it tonight if needed.

Tuesday 5/6

1. Journal: Respond to the Multiple Genre paper you read.  Comment freely on subject matter, approaches, tone, what you liked, what you didn’t, what surprised you.

2. Multigenre Project

    a. Discuss journal and paper in general.

    b. Formally assign Multigenre Research Paper

        1) Guidelines and Requirements

        2) Grading Rubric

        3) Strategies and Possibilities

        4) Research Design – to be completed over the rest of the week; I won’t even expect these until late Friday.

    c. We will be in the media center the next three days to allow you to do your research.

    d. Begin brainstorming on a separate sheet of paper.  Feel free to suggest topics or ask questions as you see fit.

Wednesday 5/7

1. Journal: none

2. Multigenre Project (media center computers)

    a. Click on the Multigenre Link directly above.  Take a look at what is available to you.  Did you see the MLA guide?  Good.  That means I don’t have to answer any questions about formatting your bibliography/works cited!  Whoo hoo!

    b. Finish brainstorming for topic/topics.  Feel free to explore the web and our databases to come up with ideas.  Let me help if you are stuck.

    c. Use your Research Design handout to guide you along, filling it out as you go. I don’t expect these until Friday at the earliest.

        1) You can always print another one, so don’t worry if you have few false starts.

        2) Helpful Hint: I always find one of the most important aspects of picking a topic is just finding out if there is much I can find about it.

    d. Of course, at this point you are just acquiring sources (but don’t forget the bibliographic info you will need).

    e. Teacher consultation as you wish.

Thursday 5/8

1. Journal: none

2. Multigenre Project (media center computers)

    a. Continue your searching for ideas and research.

    b. Fill out your Research Design sheet as you go. We’ll want these filled out by the end of the period tomorrow.

        1) You can always print another one, so don’t worry if you have few false starts.

        2) Helpful Hint: I always find one of the most important aspects of picking a topic is just finding out if there is much I can find about it.

    c. Don’t forget to collect the bibliographic info for our sources as you go.

    d. Teacher consultation as you wish.

Friday 5/9

1. Journal: (save to your L drive) How’s it going so far?!

2. Multigenre Project (media center computers)

    a. Finish initial research.  From here, you are expected to complete your research on your own.

    b. Complete the Research Design sheet and have checked.  If you aren’t checked in class, leave it with me for checking.

    c. Teacher consultation as you wish.
