section, including journals.
c. Read poetry from old English 9
book.
1) Find a poem you like.
2) If you already have a favorite and
it’s not in the book, you may find the poem on the internet and print it.
3) You may not use songs for this
activity.
4) Write a two paragraph commentary on
your poem telling why you like it and exploring your interpretation of how the
poem was written.
d. Finish today; if not, have done for
tomorrow.

Journal: Open write in poetic form.

Reminder to create separate Poetry section in Portfolio or notebook for all
poetry stuff we do, including journals.

Poetry Workshop
a. Share your poem with the class. If you choose a poem not in the old English 9
book, you don’t have to have copies for everybody.
b. Share your response to the poem and
answer questions about it.
c. We’ll explore some of the techniques we
find in the poems.
d. Turn in Poem Commentary at end of
period.
e. If time, write a poem of your own
choosing.

a. Complete Enrichment as needed - #3 due Friday.
b. You may choose to work on your semester
project if you wish.
c. If you have neither to work on, you are
to free write poetry to be included in your poetry portfolio.
Thursday

1.
Journal: Write down a couple of your favorite riddles or make up a couple of
your own.
2.
Poetry Workshop: 12 O’Clock News
a. Go over vocabulary for the poem.
b. Read poem twice: once silently, once
aloud.
c. Draw the poem and try to figure out what
it is. Paper and crayons will be
provided.
1) Pay attention to positioning;
remember you are drawing a three dimensional scene on a two dimensional piece
of paper.
2) Imagery is very important:
try to draw each image as it is described.
d. First person to figure out what the
scene actually is gets 5 points extra credit.
e. If you have already done this assignment
before, your task is to write a poem just like this one on any topic you like.
f. If we finish, reveal answers today and
how Bishop created the poem. Thoroughly
examine use of imagery.
3. Reminder: Enrichment #3 due tomorrow.

Perspective
a. Write a poem (approximately 20 lines or
so) which develops a common object or scene from an unusual point of view.
b. You may use today’s journal as a starting point if you
like.
c. If time, share with class – make sure this is in your Poetry Portfolio.
