    a. Turn in SOAPS.
    b.  Mention maitespace & we'll be using eCampus.
    c. Assign: Get your college essay prompt by M, 9/13.
    d. Assign: Read The Awakening Chapters I-XIII by M, 9/13.

Class Intro Workshop
    a.
Syllabus w/ Book List & Lit Permission Letter (signed by Friday).
    b. Review course requirements and class participation and work ethic info.
    c. Remind academic integrity statement - you will be held to it in here.
    d. Some interesting class components
        1) You will be doing email conferences with your parents - based on your CP/WE grades!
        2) The AP Test:
             a. 3 Essays for 55% of your grade: *Theme  *Poetry Analysis (tone, etc) *Close Textual Reading
             b. 45% Multiple Choice - no longer any penalty for wrong answers.
             c. AP Tests are Literary Analysis, so that will be the focus of the class.
     e. Outline of first few weeks: Vignettes, Short Story talks, Lear projects, Awakening Reading, College essay.
4. Reader/Writer Workshop
    a. Take a look at a couple professional vignettes as models.
    b. Mark them up!
    c. Discuss and analyze - define and identify essential components.
    d. Doubtful, but if time, begin drafting yours.    
5. HW: 1) Parent signatures; 2) Awakening & College Essay Prompts - long term.
Wednesday 8/25

    a.
SOAPS late/absent turn in.
    b. Handouts for absences, etc.
    c. Reminders: Lit Permission form (turn in if ready), College Essay Prompt & Awakening I-XIII - both due 9/13.

Reader/Writer Workshop
    a. Distribute
Short Story Talk scoring guide and Short Story List. Discuss.
        1) In addition to what you find in your book, you can try to access etext for stories or choose one we aren't using from the book.
        2) Read your chosen short story as soon as possible - by Friday is recommended.
    b.
If needed: 5 minutes to review vignette samples and mark further.
    c.
Discuss and analyze vignettes - define and identify essential components.
    d. Share a couple student exemplars if time allows.

    e. Draft vignettes  - RD due tomorrow.

4. HW: 1) RD of Vignette due tomorrow for peer review; 2) Choose/read short story; 3) Awakening & CEP.

We suggest you read it tonight.

Peer review and input of vignettes - RD - 5 points.
    c. Revise and finish vignettes for presentation tomorrow.
    d. Work on scripting short story talks if your vignette has gone dry!
4. HW: 1) Vignette due tomorrow; 2) Work on Short Story Talks/Read your short story; 3) Find college essay prompt.
