Poetry Research Presentation

The Product

 

The object of your search is to master a unique type of poetry, poem, or author and present that mastery to the class in a short (10 minute) lesson.  The presentation should be accompanied by a useful handout/overhead.  Your presentation is worth 50 points (MW) and will be graded for the following:

 

Effective organization, flow, and interest level

Knowledge of and comfort with poetry type, poem, or author

Effectiveness of handout/overhead
Overall success of presentation

 

Our Discovering Site – A good place to start

 

You may also use any reputable poetry or literature website as well as the many good books on poetry in our media center.

 

1. Go to http://galenet.gale.com. You may use an alternative resource if you like.

2. You are now at the gateway to the Discovering Series site.  Enter HILL59534 for both the username and password.

3. Now that you have successfully made it into the Discovering Series site, scroll down to the Exploring Poetry link and enter.  Follow the instructions for The Research and Preparation Process  below for what to do next.

 

The Research and Preparation Process

 

If you’ve followed the directions to this point, you should be at the Exploring Poetry page or other resource if you have so chosen. 

 

Next, simply browse through your resource and find a type of poetry, a specific poem, or an author you’d like to study and present.  As soon as you have chosen, report it to the teacher.  Types, poems, and authors are assigned on a first come, first served basis.  We will have two days to work.  Your best bet is to use the first day to thoroughly get to know your material and day two to create your presentation and handout/overhead. Make absolutely sure you give me the materials to be copied by the end of our second work day.
