Monday 5/19 (Senior Skip
Day)
1. Journal: What will you do
on your Senior Skip Day?
2. Writer Workshop:
Writing with a Real Purpose
a. Write a letter to a senior, in
appreciation for his/her help, guidance, or just plain friendship.
b. This should be handwritten, genuine,
heartfelt, and well-written. One page long SS will do nicely.
c. Don’t just give your senior the usual
glittering generalities – “You were so nice to me,” or, “You are really cool,”
– give them memories, examples, specifics.
Give him/her something they will find meaningful.
d. You can even make a card for it if you
like.
e. If you aren’t close to a senior, just do
this for a friend. It certainly cannot
hurt.
f. Have
checked before delivering.

it just as if it were a piece of literature you were reading in a lit
course. Mark it up. Look for the obvious
and the subtle – you’ll be surprised at some of the things you do in your
writing without you realizing it! Follow
the various questions listed on the handout step-by-step, adding what you want
