Advanced Creative Writing  4/7 – 4/11 (begin 4th nine weeks)

 

Monday 4/7

 

1. Journal: Describe your favorite toy from growing up.  Explain its importance and share and anecdote about it.

2. Writer Workshop: PM – Tapping into memory, the Short Story

    a. Creating your short story

        1) You have the memory (last W), the characterization (last R), the setting (last F),– now write the story.

        2) Remember, the purpose of your story is to capture the significance of the event.

        3) Adopt a tone, a diction, an imagery, a style that does that consistently.

        4) If you’d like a guide, the Short Story Scoring Guide is online for you.

    b. Begin prewriting

        1) I’ll want to see notes on point of view, tone, and tense. 

        2) Show me you’ve thought about those things.

        3) Due with Rough Draft, tba , but you’ll want to have enough to read by Wednesday.

    c. Five memory paragraphs, setting and characterization for Tapping into Memory checked today.

 

Tuesday 4/8

 

1. Journal: none

2. Writer Workshop: PM – Tapping into memory, the Short Story

    a. Simply write your short stories.

    b. Try to finish up your rough drafts tonight.

    c. Have five memory paragraphs, setting, and characterization checked if you haven’t already.

 

Wednesday 4/9

 

1. Journal: This one time, at the zoo (or fill in your own place) . . .  Oh, this is to be written as an 8 year old.

2. Writer Workshop: PM – Tapping into memory, the Short Story

    a. Working on rough drafts of Tapping into Memory Short Story.

    b. After reviewing the character sketches and setting descriptions in class, you may wish to revise those as well.

    c. Once you’ve had adequate time to share your writing, feel free to start revisions or finish remaining portions of your draft.

    d. I’ll want to check the rough draft and prewriting notes as they are completed.

 

Thursday 4/10

 

1. Journal: 5 minute free write

2. Writer Workshop: PM – Tapping into memory, the Short Story

    a. Peer Reading Session – with short story peer reading forms.

    b. Read each other’s work, talk about it, make it better.

    c. Once you’ve had adequate time to share your writing, feel free to start revisions or finish remaining portions of your draft.

    d. I’ll want to check the rough draft and prewriting notes as they are completed.
