Monday 2/3

 

1. Journal: Write a short poem in reaction to the shuttle disaster.

2. Writer’s Workshop

    a. Finish drafting, peer reading, and revising your Personal Choice Piece 1.

    b. Be prepared to share your RRD with the class tomorrow.

3. Reminders:

    a. Online Parent Information Forms due tomorrow. (10 points EC)

    b. Have Portfolio Materials in class by Friday.

 

Tuesday 2/4

 

1. Journal: In your opinion, what makes a piece of writing good or bad?  Try to think of at least three different criteria and explain why each is important.

2. Collect Paper Info Forms, if needed.

3. Writer’s Roundtable

    a. Various readers share parts and wholes of their work with the class.  (Volunteers are noted.)

    b. Ground rules:

        1) All students are to have paper and pencil and will write down one comment for every paper – keeps you focused and thinking.

        2) Comments can be only positive and constructive. (Maybe practice a few before we start…)

    c. Read and discuss our writing.

4. Reminder: Portfolio Materials should be in class by Friday.

 

Wednesday 2/5

 

1. Journal: First Lines: tba

2. Writer’s Workshop – Final Peer Reading and Preparation of Personal Choice Piece 1

    a. Class choice: full group or small group peer reading and revision.

    b. Either way, prepare your FC.

    c. I’ll want to read some pieces and observe how you peer read and interact.

3. Reminder: Portfolio Materials should be in class by Friday.

4. Bring your books tomorrow and until further notice.

 

Thursday 2/6

 

1. Journal: What do you like to read?  How much do you read?  What is the relationship between reading and writing?

2. Reader Response Workshop

    a. Reading Activity 1: p. 3 in Metro Book.

    c. Complete response activities for Ostrom’s Of Reading.

        1) Read poem together, aloud.

        2) Read on your own silently.

        3) Complete activities A thru D.  Finish for HW as needed.

3. HW: Read Richard Wright’s essay, The Library Card.

4. Bring your books tomorrow and until further notice.

 

Friday 2/7

 

1. Journal: Free write a response to Wright’s Essay.

2. Portfolio Set Up

3. Reader Response Workshop

    a. Complete the four additional questions to explore on page 4 for Wright’s essay.

    b. Go back and complete Exercise E on page 3 after you have finished all exercises.

    c. This Response to Reading Exploration RD is due Tuesday, 2/11.

4. Keep bringing books.
