Advanced Creative Writing 11/12 - 11/16  

Monday 11/12

1. Journal: Compare your two MFs & don't be lazy: actually READ your writing. Which one is better?  WHY? Be very specific in your reasoning for why one is better than the other.  Then, state the pros and cons of both approaches to dialogue.  End by stating which approach you personally like better and would be more likely to use in future writings.

2. Writer's Workshop: Microfiction

    a. Microfiction 3: Share in groups, judge, pick winner, turn in.

    b. Assign MF 4: Ok, let's admit it: we've all told a lie to avoid punishment for something we shouldn't have done.  Write the story of what you did or the lie you told as if it were a suspense mystery, building to an exciting or unexpected climax.  You need no resolution.

        1) Write RD.

        2) FC due Monday, 11/26.

4. HW: 1) MF 4 due Monday, 11/26; 2) Be sure to have your Tapping into Memory writings with you tomorrow.

Tuesday 11/13

1. Journal: Five questions for your peer reader.

2. Semester Project Workshop

    a. Due: All materials through Tapping into Memory.

    b. Guided revision for your Tapping into Memory story.

    c. Rework and create new final copy.

3. HW: 1) MF 4 due Monday, 11/26; 2) Finish revisions to your story - FC is now done.

Wednesday 11/14

1. Journal: If you could interview anyone you wanted, who would it be?  Where would it be?  What would you want to ask them?  Why?

2. Semester Project Workshop

    a. Due: Tapping into Memory Final Copy - turn in your RRD we created yesterday.

    b. Complete overview of Interviewing and Giving Characters Life

    c. Lesson: Interviewing.

    d. Plan for your interview - who, when, where?  Arrange by next Tuesday.

    e. Prepare interview questions and notes.

3. HW: 1) MF 4 due Monday, 11/26; 2) Semester Project: Arrange interview by next Tuesday.

 

Thursday 11/15  

 

1. Journal: What haven't we done yet in this class that you really wanted to do?  How would you want to do it?

2. Workshop: Author-Style Study

    a. Planning our Author-Style Study together.

    b. What the teacher is thinking: Study an author thoroughly, command his/her style, write in that style and in the genre you really want to study, have a variety of products including a biography, a style analysis, and of course, original works of our own.

    b. Set up ESSENTIAL QUESTION, products, and process.

    c. If time, begin settling on a rubric - may want to save for later.

3. HW: 1) MF 4 due Monday, 11/26.; 2) Semester Project: Arrange interview by next Tuesday.
